Pondering Thoughts – Pursuing a Passion

March 31st, 2010 • Caroline • 1 Comment »

Now that I’m about to become a mom, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I will help my future son pursue his dreams. You see, I’ve always been a dreamer but never exactly had that push to pursue whatever I wanted, wherever I wanted. My parents always had the best of intentions and I was fortunate enough to grow up in a household where if  Iwanted to do something badly enough, they would have eventually caved and let me.

But when it comes to pursuing those day dreams I had as a kid – travelling to far off places, pursuing writing or some other creative career over a “professional” career, I wasn’t exactly encouraged. Like I said, I could have had it all if I wanted but I was the type of kid who needed to know it was OK to pursue any dream I wanted… Luckily I grew up and decided as an adult that dreams should be pursued. Life is too short not to enjoy it. While travelling after University was only a dream never dared, I am currently pursuing not only writing but other avenues that allow me to unleash my creative side. I had to make the leap for myself without relying on other people’s nod of approval and I believe this in turn has only improved my character and will only improve my skills as a future mom.

When I day dream of who my son will become, I can only hope he’s happy in what he’s doing. I’ve learned that when you’re working in a job you don’t enjoy, your unhappiness there tends to spill over into other aspects of your life. So long as he pursues his passion and is genuinely happy, I can honestly say I will be proud.

I would love to know what other people’s passions are and if they pursued them early on or left them to later in life because they were scared to take that plunge? And for those of you who were initially scared, did you take a leap of faith anyway, even if it was later on in life, only to find success?
